How to Sell an RV

The RV associations are currently reporting that over HALF of all RVs are being sold "By Owner". There can be a significant savings to the seller, but there is also a number of drawbacks. As a seller, you have several options available to assist you in finding qualified buyers. Let's list a few:

1. Local Newspaper(s) Classified Section.

2. Local Shoppers Newspapers - Thrifty Nickel, etc.

3. RV Specific Magazines - RV Trader, etc.

4. Online Classified Websites - See Below.

5. Online Auction Sites - eBay, etc.

6. RV Brokers and Agents.

These advertising sources should be used in combination with each other. While it may only be cost effective to run an ad in a large metropolitan area on Sundays or weekends, you can compliment these ads with other sources.

There are several GOOD online classified advertising sources listed at the bottom of this page. Several of them are FREE to private sellers. You should start with your local newspapers and several of the free or lower cost classified options. If you need additional assistance you can always spend a little more on some additional online advertising sources, or increase the frequency of your local newspaper ads and other similar media.

Many people immediately think of eBay when they think of selling their RV. True, eBay does sell thousands of RVs each month. Be aware, however that most of these motorhomes, travel trailers and 5th wheels are sold AT or BELOW WHOLESALE. Don't be fooled into thinking anything else. Sure, there are a handful of rare or collector's item RVs that will bring near or above retail, but these are few and far between.

I won't go into the common sense aspects of how to sell an RV. You already know that the unit should be clean, both inside and out, as well as mechanically sound. To advertise an RV in any condition other than this is begging for low offers, or more likely... No offers. 

RV Brokers and Agents are relatively new to the RV industry. There are a few on the internet at the current time. They can help with getting your ad placed on multiple RV classified websites among other things. They can also help your potential buyers with financing, warranties, insurance and shipping (if necessary).
